Hi friends,
If you’ve been following Creatingme for a while, you may have seen this super simple way to make throw pillows for your home. Sewing is not one of my skills, but I do love to change out my accent pillows for the different seasons and purchasing premade pillows can be expensive! 😳

I make throw pillows using seasonal kitchen towels. Your choice of patterns are endless and you can often find them at very reasonable prices – especially on sale. I found this red striped towel at Target. It was in a set of 2 with a 4th of July theme for $5.00. I’ll probably use the other towel in my kitchen – or maybe make another pillow. 😊
I loved the fringe on this towel and, bonus for me, I decorate with red accents in my home so I can use it all year! It will also be great at Christmas time.
You’ll need a kitchen towel, polyfil, and fabric hot glue to make your pillow. I like to use Surebonder fabric hot glue sticks with my Surebonder hot glue gun. I use this glue gun for my fabric glue and have another glue gun for general crafting so I don’t mix the different types of glue together. Regular hot glue may also work, but I haven’t tried it.

To make the pillow, first wash, dry, and iron it to get all the creases out. Then fold it in half and begin carefully applying a thin line of hot glue along the edges of the towel to secure it. I do a small section at a time and press it down for a few seconds until the glue cools and sets.

First do both sides and then apply glue to the bottom of the towel, leaving an opening for stuffing the pillow. Using the polyfil, stuff the pillow to your desired fullness and then glue the opening closed. The size of your finished pillow will depend on the size of your kitchen towel.

This is such a great and inexpensive way to add a seasonal touch to your decor. Your choice of towels is truly endless! You can also make these pillows to toss onto your bed or they would be great for the children’s rooms, too – let them pick out the towel and help with adding the polyfil. 🙂
